Its hard to believe our first year here at The Farmers on Wheels has passed and we've moved into year two!

Thanks to the support of our burgeoning customer base we have been able to supply our clients with the freshest, healthiest & tastiest varieties of locally sourced fruit.

Currently we have a great lineup of apples, including Gala, Granny Smith, Fuji, Honeycrisp and Opals. Eaten as a snack, sliced up to pair with a cheese and cracker plate or baked into a delicious pie or tart , the options are numerous!

Bosc, Concorde, D'Anjou, Forelle and Red D'Anjou pears offer an equally diverse palette to complement any meal. Poached, baked or eaten out of hand are just a few examples of their utilitarian nature.

Satsuma mandarins have hit full stride with an excellent flavor and high sugar content. Our first new crop California navel oranges from Kings River have good color and are yielding a decent early sugar profile. We are also carrying a nice mix of specialty citrus, including Buddha Hand, Palestinian Sweet Limes, Kaffir and Finger Limes, Variegated and Meyer Lemons. All of these varieties add color, zest and aroma to any meal or occasion.

Finally, we still have a good supply of pomegranates and persimmons-both the Fuyu and Hachiya varieties. These are always great additions for a festive holiday season.

Its hard to believe summer is over but I for one am really looking forward to the fall season and what we have to offer here at Petra Produce. late season Autumn King and Natural Thompson seedless green grapes are at the height of their sugar profile and make an excellent snack in the afternoon for kids returning home from school.

Crunchy Hosui apple pears combine a juicy and nutty flavor all in one bite!

New crop D'Anjou pears have arrived from Washington along with the Sweetie apple, an aromatic

blend of two varieties, the sugar-sweet Royal Gala and the firm-crisp Braeburn.

Early Foothill extra large pomegranates are now available, bursting with color and taste.

Green Sevillano olives are perfect for brining.

The last of the short Italian prune season from Idaho has finished and I think it was one of their best crops in years. The sugar level was at peak levels.

Two fall favorites have returned at Petra, California Chestnuts and Pistachios, both packed in 25 pound sacks and available for the next few weeks. Both of these are excellent roasted and along with pomegranates herald that the fall season is indeed in full swing......

Fresh Bahri dates from the Coachella Valley

Right now Petra Produce is offering some unique special summer treats!

Bahri dates are freshly picked from trees in the Coachella Valley. They have a dry, light-sweetness. Low on the glycemic scale, they can be a tasty alternative to other high sugar sources.

Natural Flame seedless grapes

Natural Flame seedless grapes are super sweet and make a nice contrast on a cheese and cracker plate!

Natural grapes are grown without growth regulators such as Gibberellic acid which is used in small amounts on fruit such as grapes and cherries to enhance cell growth and increase cluster and berry size. Gibberellic acid was first discovered by Kurosawa, a botanist in Japan in 1926.

Jubilee Pluots Family Tree Farms

Try our crunchy, sweet-tart Jubilee pluots that arrived last Friday at Petra. Super flavorful and refreshing on a hot summer afternoon!

Much more of a traditional plum in appearance and taste.

Plapple Pluots Family Tree Farms

These are a rare variety of pluot that show up for a very short time at the height of summer. The ones shown to the left are packed in three layers and are about the size of a golfball!

They make for a satisfying, sweet and crispy snack anytime.

Solo Hawaiian Papayas

Solo papayas from Hawaii are great

in a salad, smoothies or just cut in half and eaten with a squeeze of lime to counter the creamy, mild tropical flavor.

Papayas are loaded with nutrients essential for maintaining a healthy gut, loaded with vitamin C and just plain delicious.

Korean Melons

Here is a varietal melon that appeals to everyone. It has a striking outer skin and a creamy, white, almost translucent flesh inside offering a mildly sweet taste.

Because they are small they are the perfect lunchbox melon!
