We, here at the Farmers on Wheels, are kicking off our new line
of fresh, nutritious fruits, locally sourced seasonal favorites.
With fall in full swing we will offer new crop apples and pears from California, Oregon and Washington. Included in our lineup will be Golden and Red Delicious, Gala, Fuji and Granny Smith as well as many other varieties as the season enfolds. We will highlight Comice, Forelle, Bartlett, Bosc and D'Anjou pears from the Sacramento, Mendocino, Medford and the Hood River Valleys. This will include Asian Pears such as Hosui, Shinseiki, Yali and Shinko. They offer a nutty, sweet and tart palette of flavor. We still have California Chestnuts and Pistachios, which are excellent for roasting.
Fall is a traditional time of year of year for such treats as sugary Fuyu persimmons, pomegranates bursting with juice and flavor. Kiwi is arriving from California and there will still be a few late season plums and grapes loaded with high sugar count available through October. the fall, early winter will see the appearance of Navel oranges, clementines, Mandarins, Tangerines as well as a host of varietal citrus from central and southern California. Local growers will still have stone fruit available at our local bay area farmers markets throughout October. Bananas, of course will be a mainstay feature in our boxes year round. Other fruit will be available, such as strawberries as we move further into fall and early winter.
Please stay tuned for new posts on a weekly basis.
